The vmware.log file is usually in the same folder as the rest of the files that comprise the Virtuual Machine.  Additionally you should be able to review the location in the VM's Settings as well.  In Windows 7, you can also use type vmware.log in the "Search program and files" dialog box by clicking the Start Orb.

Thanks much -- I think I should have been more clear and hope this will be so: in addition to the fact that I am referring to not being able to find a log I viewed right after the upgrade that referred to all 3 VMs, I meant to indicate that the individual VM log was missing for the day of the upgrade for the machine that was inaccessible -- it does have its logs for the prior day's session.  I previously did do the search for the upgrade log but did not find that one.
