You are absolutly right. To explain our situation, we are not new in the "business". Today we have about 2000 physical and virtual servers, about 300 are running on a vSphere farm. We have Intel and Sparc cpu's in use for solaris and we use AMD cpu's in combination with windows and linux servers. Now we wanna design a new vsphere plattform also for the business critical applications. why we use Intel and AMD - because of the vendor of the hardware and because of contracts, but now we are open for a chance
The risks - downtime is not a option - this is the principle, so we have almost everything redundant - san, storageboxes, datacenter, airconditioning, power, network - all the high-tec-nerd shit ;-)
What i'm looking for, are some experience with hardware, where you can say - that's awesome -> because of performance, or management, or stability or that's something new, you have to check it out.
