Just wanted to quickly update this.
This issue was occuring because our vCenter is multi-homed, and the address that my client was resolving when I was using my DNS name is different than what the backup appliance needed to resolve when IT polled the DNS name for vcenter.
Stupid issue, I know. Either way, if anyone else runs into some funky things when trying to add a VDR, make sure your DNS is working great, or try using an IP address to at least see if it connects that way (and make sure to try the correct IP address, that was my issue, wasn't thinking about it from the VDR's perspective, only mine, since they're on different networks).
