Workstation 9 Extremely Slow Performance

I recently bought VMWare Workstation 9 and started using my appliances from the older VMPlayer.

The program actually deleted the player to install.

The problem I am having is any appliance I use is 10-20 times slower than when I used the player alone.

I just cannot work with this slow program.

What is the problem? Is there a setting I need to set?

Any help would be appreciated. If I cannot get this program to run properly, I will have to get a refund and go back to just the Player.
