I started the upgrade of Vmware 5.0.2 from the Vmware menu yesterday on my MacBook Pro.
The upgrade started with a message about "upgrading Fusion Core". This was taking a while, and I received a phone call, and had to leave and go away for several hours.
When I came back to my Mac, Vmware had its popup asking for administrative privileges to access my Bootcamp partition. I provided the password but the upgrade immediately failed with a non-informative error message.
The Vmware icon on my Mac changed to the "No" sign and when I tried to run it, it said that Vmware was damaged or corrupted.
Nice going VMware! The VMs on this box are my bread and butter and this kind of corrupting upgrade is unacceptable.
I uninstalled Vmware 5.0.2 and am now in the process of downloading and installing Vmware 5.0.3 directly. Hopefully everything will work. I will update this post.
