In case it's now clear from my last note:
My machine started crashing when I updated to 5.0.2 in Novermber, so I reverted back to 5.0.1 and it has been working fine up until 2 days ago.
I updated to 5.0.3 2 days ago, and made sure I updated OSX to 10.8.3 first as requested.
