You can wait for the next version however you'll probably still have to manually install VMware Tools in a Linux VM as that has always been the case with the exception of using Easy Install with supported Linux Distros. However I would never ever under any circumstances use Easy Install for a Linux Virtual Machine I intended to use personally. This is because in some cases it makes a undersized /boot partition that can make it difficult to upgrade and maintain using more then one kernel as well as some other idiosyncrasies I find objectionable.
Anyway if you are having an issue with VMware Tools or need to reinstall VMware Tools in a Linux Distro then you need to do it manually and I'd suggest you read and follow the documentation!
