Re: Webclient browsing problem with multi-site PSC & VCS implementation

Please let me know the outcome to this.  I am in the exact same boat but I have 6 sites.  I hope VMware will correct this issue with the web client especially since they are no longer supporting, and getting rid of, the thick client.

Vmware console screen not scaling properly

I had this issue on a new surface pro 4 thinking it was the drivers or due to the DPI high resolution output. Tried various VSphere clients and the web client with no luck for a fix and was only able to see the left top 25% of server console screen. Searched all posts and it seemed to be an issue with the VMware client and support has no answers. The final resolution to this problem for me was to remove dot net 4 or higher and only use Don't net 3.5 in Windows features. Once that was the only feature enabled the problem went away and I can now launch the console and able to view the entire screen perfectly. This is the fix and wanted to share with the community.

Did you re-arm the Office AppStack?

My suggestion is to put Office in your master image, since it is heavily integrated with the OS and Third part add-ons work better with Office on the master image. A lot less of a headache.

vCenter sending incorrect DNS requests of non-existants hosts

$

vCenter is in an A/D domain:

corp.pvt

vCenter DNS suffix search order is:

corp.pvt

corp.local

corp.com

ESXi hosts are all resolvable using:

corp.com

ESXi hosts are added to vCenter inventory as host.corp.com

From vCenter, host.corp.com is resolvable, no issues.

When looking at DNS request packet traces from our vCenter, instead of requesting for one request (host.corp.com - they way it was added in its inventory) it's always trying all three in the order of the suffix search, i.e.:

host.corp.pvt (results in bad request)

host.corp.local (results in bad request)

host.corp.com (finally gets a positive return)

This has no impact to vCenter/Host connectivity, just trying to understand and potentially get an explanation as to why vCenter would behave like this if the FQDN was provided for the host?

Thanks

Yes, this was EXACTLY the cure to my issue, too!  Thanks for posting.

Overwriting Catalog vApp Template using PowerCLI

$

Hello,

I cannot locate the cmdlet and parameter to overwrite an existing catalog item (vApp Template) using PowerCLI. I can add one without issue using the 'New-CIVAppTemplate' cmdlet, but that has not option to overwrite. Nor does the cmdlet 'Set-CIVAppTemplate'. Did I miss it, or is it not possible using PowerCLI?

Hi,

Is a very generic question/error.

First you should inform versions of the products that you are trying to install and also if possible to add a print screen when you have the issue.

If you get this error when installing, please upload the log setup.

Maybe after this you will get more replies and a solution.

Did you setup your Office GPO's, like this?

Office 2013 ADMX Settings.png

You also can run the UEM App Profiler to capture defined settings to be applied at login.

Example:

Thank you for the response, RD.

I am on an early 2011 MacBook Pro.  I have all the latest VMware Tools installed and all works reasonably well.  But, as I work with Windows 8 to be sure I have everything optimized for peak performance, I was not sure where to leave the Windows settings for automatic driver updating.  Does this help, does it hurt or does it even matter?  My laptop has 16 GB with 4 GB assigned to the VM. I have a quad core with 1 core assigned to the VM.

I am having a lot of System Interrupts that keep the CPU running between 5% and 20% most of the time.  So, I have been working to optimize the Windows environment as much as possible.

Thanks again.

Tim

Re: Vcenter SSL error

Hi,

After you change your Domain, did you re-add the vCenter to that domain? Also after you change the domain, did you recreate all Certificates that are using the old domain?

The search error is many times fix adding the vCenter in the "Identify Sources" to use "Active Directory", but in this case I think the issue is the certificates.

How to replace certificates:

Replacing Default vCenter Server 5.1 and ESXi 5.1 Certificates

Hope this can help.

Re: Windows 8.1 Drivers

I don't believe that it should matter.  It can't hurt to leave the Windows Update in automatic mode.  It won't (likely) have drivers for the VMware virtual hardware, so it won't matter; but any other system pieces would get updated.

I also tried running VSM 1.5 on a completely different Windows 10 X64 system and I received the same error.

Hi,

First always add information about VMware versions(vCenter, vSphere, etc.) It helps providing the proper solution.

Are this domains all locally? Or this are main domain(like enterprise) what is working, then the sub/domains are remote locations that are not working?

You could add hosts / domains in the host file so that you can resolve all.

The filesystem driver (vmhgfs module) is used only for the shared folder

feature. The rest of the software provided by VMware Tools is designed to work

independently of this feature.

If you wish to have the shared folders feature, you can install the driver by

running vmware-config-tools.pl again after making sure that gcc, binutils, make

and the kernel sources for your running kernel are installed on your machine.

These packages are available on your distribution's installation CD.

[ Press Enter key to continue ]

Which on the one hand looks like the the install for vmhgfs completely without error, but on the other hand looks like it failed since it's telling me to run vmware-config-tools again to get the shared folders feature. I confirmed that the shared folder feature is not working. I got similar messages for other features; the feature seemed to build fine, but then I get a similar message implying it didn't. In any case, the folder that should show up in /mnt/hgfs isn't there, and doesn't show up when I do the "mount" command. But if I type "vmware-hgfsclient" it does list the folder that is supposed to be shared.

I've tried rebooting, running the uninstaller and installing again, but nothing is working.

The complete install log is attached.

Can someone please help?

Thanks!

Hi,

This is a new installation, or are you trying to re-point to a external PSC within your site?

If to re-point, check this: How to repoint vCenter Server 6.0 between External PSC within a site (2113917) | VMware KB

Also dont forget that the old installation could have the PNID(primary network identifier) with the FQDN or the IP address. Is not the same and they work different.

If a new installation, try to follow this:

https://featurewalkthrough.vmware.com/#!/vsphere-6-0/vcenter-server-install/vcsa-6-0-install-with-external-psc/16

Re: vCenter sending incorrect DNS requests of non-existants hosts

vcenter version is 5.5

its not a question of working or not working.

its a question of behavior.

Host was added as "host.corp.com"

Based on DNS packet traces, vCenter is not sending a DNS request for "host.corp.com" it is instead stripping ".corp.com" taking only the "hostname" and then appending each domain in the Suffix Search Order list (from Windows TCP/IPv4 DNS configuration):

"host.corp.pvt" --- WRONG

"host.corp.local" --- WRONG

"host.corp.com" --- CORRECT!

Why doesn't it just use the FQDN that it was provided?
